Andrea Ramsey, a native Arkansan, holds a B.A. in Music Education from Arkansas Tech University and has completed Level Three certification of the Doreen Rao Choral Music Experience Institute. While pursuing her M.M. in Choral Conducting at the University of Kansas, she is also employed as a rehearsal assistant for the Allegro Community Children's Choir in Kansas City.
As a published composer of choral music, Andrea has multiple works in print with companies such as Boosey & Hawkes, Hal Leonard, Colla Voce, Alliance Music, Santa Barbara, Fred Bock Music, and BriLee music. She is frequently commissioned to write new works for choirs. Her works have been performed at divisional and national ACDA conventions, and also featured on national reading sessions.
Before coming to KU (2000-2008), Andrea taught choral music in the Bentonville Public School district. Her choirs consistently achieved superior ratings at festivals, and were invited to perform for the Arkansas All-State Music Conference in 2007. Under her direction, the choral program at Washington Junior High in Bentonville grew to include over 375 students in six choirs, grades 7-8. She co-founded and served as artistic director of the Bentonville Children's Choir, a non-profit community children's choir with nearly 100 singers in two choirs. An active member of ACDA, Andrea served as editor of the Arkansas Accent ACDA State Newsletter for three years. She also enjoys work as a clinician for choirs, and as an adjudicator for large group festivals.
