Jeremy Manternach is a 2000 graduate of Saint John's University/College of Saint Benedict in Choral Conducting and Vocal Performance. He received his master's degree in Choral Pedagogy from the University of Kansas in 2009 and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Choral Pedagogy at KU. Previously, Jeremy was a choir director and performer in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. He spent four years as the Vocal Music Director at Andover High School and two at Apple Valley High School. He also served for two years as the Assistant Artistic Director for the St. John's Boys' Choir in Collegeville, MN.
In addition to conducting, Jeremy is also a choral scholar at Grace Episcopal Cathedral in Topeka, KS. He has been a hired tenor soloist or section leader with the Phipps Oratorio Society (WI), Exultate, the Voices of Vienna, the Macalester Chorale, The Saint John's Abbey Schola, and spent four years with the Westminster Presbyterian Church Senior Choir. He spent five years with Kantorei Chamber Choir as a singer, which included a stint as the Vice President of the Board of Directors. In addition, he spent six years as a section leader with the Minnesota Chorale, and one year with The Singers - Minnesota Choral Artists.
In the 2005-2006 school year, Jeremy was honored as a recipient of the TOP (Teacher Outstanding Performance) Award from the Anoka-Hennepin School District #11. He was also one of three selected to participate in the Minnesota Chorale Emerging Conductor program. His refereed research presentations to date include such venues as the International Physiology and Acoustics of Singing Conference (PAS 4), the International Phenomenon of Singing Symposium, the Southwestern Division Conference of the American Choral Directors Association, and the Kansas Music Educators Association. His choirs have given invited performances at conventions of the Minnesota Choral Directors Association. He is currently a member of the VoiceCare Network Mentorship Apprentice Program. His conducting instructors include Dr. James F. Daugherty, Br. Paul Richards, OSB, and Dr. Axel Theimer. He is a member of MENC, ACDA, and the VoiceCare Network. He currently lives in Lawrence, KS with his wife, Anna, and his dog and cat, Bubba and Koshka.
